What Is SOC 2 Compliance?

Systems and Organization Controls 2 (SOC 2) is a globally recognized standard for data security developed by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA). There are two types of evaluations: SOC 2 Type 1 and SOC 2 Type 2: SOC 2 Type I evaluates whether an organization’s controls are effectively designed to meet the Trust Service Criteria at a specific point in time, whereas SOC 2 Type II assesses their operational effectiveness over a longer period.

SOC 2 evaluations assess whether an organization’s controls are effectively designed to meet the Trust Service Criteria of security, availability, confidentiality, processing integrity, and privacy. Security is the only mandatory criterion for SOC 2, while organizations can select additional criteria relevant to their operations. Achieving the SOC 2 Type 1 certification demonstrates that City Detect has established a solid foundation for protecting client data. City Detect will be starting our SOC2 Type 2 observation period in Feb 2025.

Trust: The Cornerstone of Municipal Partnerships

Trust is essential in public-sector technology partnerships. Municipalities are stewards of their communities and must ensure that the technologies they deploy meet the highest standards of safety, security, and ethics.

At City Detect, trust is a guiding principle. Achieving SOC 2 Type I compliance is just one way we prioritize trust-building in our relationships with clients to secure the smart cities we work with. Here’s how we go above and beyond:

  • Transparency in Operations: We are clear about how we collect, use, and secure data to give municipalities the confidence they need to deploy our solutions.
  • Independent Verification: SOC 2 Type I certification serves as external validation of our commitment to safeguarding sensitive information.
  • Client-Centered Approach: We work closely with municipalities to address their specific needs and ensure our systems align with their goals.

Cybersecurity: The Backbone of Secure Smart Cities

As cities become more connected, cybersecurity has become a central concern. Smart cities connect systems to manage infrastructure, services, and resources, but this innovation introduces new vulnerabilities. From data breaches to ransomware attacks, municipalities must navigate an ever-evolving threat landscape.

City Detect takes a proactive approach to cybersecurity:

  • Secure Architecture: We build our systems with encryption and access controls to protect data at every stage.
  • Regular Assessments: SOC 2 Type I certification includes an evaluation of the design and implementation of security controls, ensuring robust protections.
  • Ongoing Vigilance: We continuously monitor and update our systems to stay ahead of emerging threats.

Cybersecurity isn’t a one-time achievement—it’s an ongoing commitment. At City Detect, we ensure our solutions remain secure as cities grow and adopt new technologies.

Responsible AI: Ethical and Transparent Technology

As an AI-driven organization, we take our ethical responsibilities seriously. At City Detect, our Responsible AI Policy is built on three guiding principles:

  1. Fairness: Our algorithms are designed to actively minimize bias, ensuring equitable outputs.
  2. Privacy-First Approach: We prioritize data privacy by using only the information necessary for our solutions and implementing safeguards at every level.
  3. Transparency and Accountability: We design our processes and practices to be clear, ensuring municipalities understand how our AI-powered tools operate and make decisions.

Responsible AI means going beyond compliance to ensure that our technology aligns with societal values and serves the public good. By combining innovation with accountability, we build tools that empower municipalities while respecting the rights of their residents.
