HOW WE STARTED
From the garage to helping local governments across the country.
City Detect grew out of a University of Alabama research project using computer vision to understand the built environment. Local municipal leaders and community partners challenged the team to apply the technology to real, on-the-ground problems they were experiencing, and City Detect was born.
What we do. We use sensors to map the physical world. Our partners use our data to improve their communities, whether that's aggregating longitudinal views of the world or responding to unforeseen issues that they need to act on quickly.
Why we're doing it. Community members rely on their local leaders to invest in new solutions to improve their quality of life, and we're entrusted with that responsibility. As a startup, we're building huge value for ourselves and our loved ones, but it's equally important to keep sight of who we're doing this for, day to day, and as we bring on new teammates.
HOW WE WORK

Awareness
We maintain attention on all that happens around us.
The work demands that we see clearly: what's changing in the cities we serve, what our partners actually need, where the next problem is forming. Awareness is the prerequisite to everything else we do.
Action
We take action to force success, and assume that, if we don't do it, no one will.
Small teams make outsized impact when they move. We default to doing, shipping the fix, picking up the phone, taking the meeting, rather than waiting for someone else to.
Accountability
We own outcomes, good or bad, as individuals and as a team.
No one says "that's not my job." If someone needs help, all they need to do is ask. We support each other when things get hard, and we own the result together.
LIFE AT CITY DETECT
A small team spread across the four corners of the country. We get along, we make jokes, we tease each other, and, although we're not a family, we're absolutely friends. Together, greatness is inevitable.
